Are there any airlines that offer bereavement flights?

My friend's elderly mother ped away today. He would like to attend her funeral but she lives in another state. He doesn't work right now and receives unemployment, but not enough to afford a plane ticket. Long ago I heard that some airlines offer free or low cost immediate family bereavement flights. Is this still available and if so which airline. We're in California
