Vampire Diaries or True Blood ?

I'm thinking of getting a season of either VD or TB because they both include vampires and i'm into that kind of stuff but i'm not sure which one should i choose because i haven't really seen neither one. Could anyone just write what are they is about, just the main storyline, plot whatever. Which one would you recommend?
