Are the protestors helping or hindering Tibet's cause?

Are the sometimes violent scuffles we have seen lately likely to help Tibet or actually harm their cause? Is it a good way to highlight the human rights issues in Tibet or will it make people angry and less likely to ist? Will it make China listen? What do you think?
