Horrible break up. help me please...?

okay, so for about a week and a half, ive been planning on breaking up with my girlfriend because to make a long story short, she treated me horrible and basically almost cheated on me. so for this week and a half, i first gave her the we need to talk, but the thing was, everytime i tried to meet her in person, she would say no she doesnt want to talk about it. so, after a week, i went against all my rules and had to do it over a text. i had really no other choice. so now, shes telling me shes throwin up and all her friends think im a jerk because i did it over a text, but they don't know how i tried for a week to talk to her in person... am i a jerk? and what can i do to overcome? this is my first actual break up and i feel bad
